2001-04 Toyota Sequoia (or Tundra truck) removal of front parking/blinker lights

I recently decided to replace, rather than restore, the headlight body/lens for my Sequoia.  There are several videos on YouTube that show how simple it is.  And it is….mostly.

At the very outset, I came upon a real problem — I couldn’t do the first step, i.e. the step one removal of the parking/blinker assembly.  I could not get it off.  Some videos say it simply comes off.  Some simply break away and say pull it off.  I found several videos about prying and pulling etc.  But the real magic was the video linked at the bottom of this post wherein the assembly is simply pulled off by using a line — weed-eater line works wonderfully — to snag and pull it forward.

Here is what the thing looks like.  Note the long tab that simply extends into the body of the car.  On my car, one side was only moderately tight; the other was really, really tight.  But the weed-eater line made it easy (mostly) for both sides.  My strong advice, do this and be happy!

So the trick is to put a line around the outer body and snag into the V.  Then simply pull straight back with all your might…and it will come out.  Easy, without breaking or marring the paint  (Of course, you’ve already removed the little phillips screw thing, right?…).

Here is the video…the info is toward the end.  I give the video here but, knowing the fickle nature of YouTube, it may be here today and gone tomorrow!
